Who can apply
The Studio Foundation rents workspaces, facilities, warehouses and studio apartments to professional visual artists who live and work in Finland.
Membership in member organisations of the Artists’ Association of Finland (Finnish Painters’ Union, Association of Finnish Printmakers, Association of Finnish Sculptors, Association of Photographic Artists and Artists’ Association MUU) is considered an advantage for the applicant. However, membership in an association is not a prerequisite for applying.
A facility can also be applied for by a student of visual arts or a visual artist who is otherwise in the early stages of their career and is not yet a member of an artists’ association.
The tenant may be an individual artist or a community of visual artists (e.g. an association, a cooperative or a limited liability company). If the tenant is a community, the main focus of operations must be on the professional practice of visual arts.
How the selections are made
The Studio Foundation’s selection committee assesses the applications for workspaces and studio apartments and decides on the choice of tenants. The selection committee consists of the visual artist members of the Foundation’s board of directors. If necessary, supplementary members are invited.
When assessing the applications, the selection committee examines the applicant’s
- artistic merit
- activities as a visual artist
- CV, work samples or portfolio
- the suitability of the artistic work for the facility or studio apartment applied for
- need for the facility or studio apartment in question
